Thank you for your support!
Friends of Haggetts Pond is continuing the effort to save the pond and trail. Your attendance helped the effort by providing needed funds to build the legal fund challenging the plan to pave this important natural resources and recreational area..
Advance tickets were $30. Tickets at the door were $35. A ticket gave attendees entrance to the party where food and live entertainment was provided: Russ Six played solo acoustic guitar, covering a wide range of familiar songs from the 60’s to today infused with a personal folk/ American style..
Background
On March 11, 2024, Friends of Haggetts Pond tried unsuccessfully to make zoning amendments to save Haggetts Pond Trail from an ill-advised project to pave it as a bikeway vis-a-vis, connected streets. While the effort was notable, the community voted down the potential unintended effect of the proposed articles on residential and other projects near wetlands. This effort was undertaken due to an inability of the town governance to accept negative feedback from the community about the project.
Since then, the Friends have been engaged in multiple efforts to educate the town on the importance of Haggetts Pond as our water supply and as a natural environment. Friends support fully maintaining this accessible trail as it is known now on websites dedicated to sharing trail information.
Dollars raised at this event went toward a legal fund aimed at challenging the town’s approach, which is contrary to our existing wetlands laws, and seems to ignore the fact of the Pond being our drinking water supply. That we should rely on the water plant, rather than rely on protecting our water source seems regressive at best. Will you help to save our town from this potential travesty?
